Hanami Lamp
flower viewing

As a starting point of this project  - inspiration, I looked up  an amazing ancient art of flower arrangement - Ikebana.

It seemed to me very interesting to investigate how such idyllic craft could incorporate with lighiting.

I was fascinated by the philosophy behind and really wanted to create a very poetical, romantic a bit mysterious luminaire, which will combine ancient ideology  with modern lighting sources and technology.

A name for my piece came when I was investigating Japanese language.

So, I found out a beautiful word Hanami, which means flower viewing.

Hanami is the Japanese traditional custom which involves large groups of people picnicking in parks and enjoying the sakura - cherry blossoms, blooming in the spring.

In brief, the idea of my design is to create decorative luminaire which  compliment essence of ancient Japanese craft with modern lighting techniques and style.
